Research & Development
Applied research, real impact
Crop improvement and breeding
Our principal program focuses on hybrid breeding in sorghum, targeting higher yield potential, drought tolerance, and improved grain quality in one of the country’s primary staple cereals In parallel, we are developing improved varieties of cotton, sesame, okra, and pearl millet, selected for adaptation to local agro-ecological conditions, water-limited environments, and elevated thermal stress.

Experimental research farm
Our research is anchored by an experimental farm in Gadarif State, where candidate lines undergo multi-stage trialing, evaluation, and selection prior to release. On-site testing ensures that varieties are validated under the same environmental conditions in which they will be cultivated.
